Our Story

How We Started...

In 1978, Vincent HoSang and his wife, Jeanette opened and operated a fast-food fried chicken restaurant in the West Bronx. They incorporated their Jamaican roots by adding authentic items to the menu, such as oxtail, curried goat and Jamaican beef patties. In 1980, the HoSangs acquired a small bakery on Dyre Ave in the Bronx, and named it Royal Caribbean Bakery. By offering quality products and service, they soon increased business to the point where they outgrew the facility. They then purchased a 73,000 square foot facility in Tappan, New York that became the corporate headquarters and manufacturing center for Caribbean Food Delights. It is now the largest Jamaican frozen food manufacturing plant in the world.

JerkQ'zine Caribbean Grille was born out of Caribbean Food Delights' concept of establishing a quick service restaurant and then supplying it with traditional Caribbean Food Delights products. However, while JerkQ’zine Caribbean Grille carries Caribbean Food Delights product, customers will also find Royal Caribbean Bakery products as well as an assortment of Caribbean grocery items like Tastee Cheese, D&G Soda, Pat's Natural Juices, Grace, Walkerswood and other Caribbean brand products. The menu also consists of independently developed signature JerkQ'zine Caribbean Grille offerings.

Our Founders

Tradition

Jeanette and Vincent HoSang were born on the small island of Jamaica. They migrated to the United States in their 20’s in search of better opportunities.  While Jeanette continued her education at Pace University to become a Registered Nurse, Vincent worked in a briefcase factory and later became a milkman.

After they married and started a family, they used their savings to purchase a fast-food fried chicken store in the Bronx, New York. It was there that they introduced Jamaican cuisine to the public and the popular Jamaican patties that would launch them from a mom and pop shop to one of the largest manufactures of Jamaican frozen food in the world.

Family Business

In 1977, Vincent and Jeanette started a family. They had four children, Damian, Sabrina, Simone and Brian. The HoSangs instilled hard work ethics into their children. With much pride and enthusiasm, Brian HoSang managed JerkQ'zine Caribbean Grille until his fatal motorcycle crash on May 12, 2008 at the tender age of 24 years old. He is sorely missed by everyone including our patrons. Thank you for sharing your fond memories of his life.

Today, you will find the HoSang's oldest son, Damian and wife, Anna, managing the store with Jeanette, herself, sometimes in the kitchen helping out. As you can see, this is a small business run by a hard-working family.

Our Work

JerkQ'zine Caribbean Grille started as a franchise concept. You may still see our ads on our affiliates' trucks as we are still operating our third location in Mount Vernon, NY. Unfortunately, we are no longer accepting franchise applications. Thank you for your interest.
